Wells Wintemute Coates (1895-1958) was born in Tokyo, Japan. B.S., Engineering, University of British Columbia, Vancouver, 1921; Ph.D., Engineering, University of London, 1924. In the office of Adams and Thompson, London, 1924. Founder, with Maxwell Fry, of the English Modern Architecture Research Group, 1933. In private practice, London, 1929-1939, 1945-1952, 1956-1958.
